Sept Program Meeting – Book Project Start to Finish

This talk by well known nature photographer and educator Kathy Adams Clark will discuss the process of publishing a photo book; including finding a publisher, working with your editor, working on the project, and then post marketing.   She will also talk about self-publishing and eBooks.  This will be a great program, please come join us.  All are welcome.

KATHY ADAMS CLARK is a nature photographer, educator, and the owner of KAC Productions. Her photos have appeared in many places including Birder’s World, Ranger Rick, The New York Times and National Geographic Books. Kathy also leads photo tours for Strabo Tours. She speaks frequently at association meetings and nature festivals. In addition, she is Past-president of the North American Nature Photography Association.

The meeting will be held Tues, Sept 10, at the Tracey Gee Center, at 7:00 pm.

August Program Night – Printing and Matting

Printing and Matting are not just things you do when your photo is finished, they are part of the artistic process itself.  Your choice of printer, ink, and paper all have an effect on the final work.  In this program we will discuss printers, papers, profiling, and workflows for both color and black and white printing, including specialized black and white printing with dedicated ink sets.   We will also demonstrate how to properly cut mats and mount your work for framing.

The meeting will be held Tues, Aug 13, at the Tracey Gee Center, at 7:00 pm.

July Program Night – Portfolio Tune Up

At HPS we place strong value on the “portfolio”, a group of images which together present a theme or a story.  Every member has the opportunity to sign up for our October Portfolio review, where member portfolios are reviewed by industry professionals.  This program will be an opportunity to share your portfolio work in progress with other HPS members and get useful feedback for completing it.  Even if you are not planning on the October review, or are a new member, feel free to bring images that might represent a portfolio at sometime in the future.   Plan on bringing 3 – 5 images or so, matting is not necessary.  Depending on the participation, a small group of people will show their work while others at HPS provide feedback.  After a period of time we will change the group of people showing.  Please bring your artist statement for the portfolio as well.  If you are undecided between two themes, it’s ok to bring samples from each.  Please be prepared to both receive and give constructive criticism; this program will only work with good participation from the members.  The meeting will be held Tues, July 9, at the Tracey Gee Center.
