Category April 2013 /Gold / B&W / Third Place
Location Cades Cove, Grate Smoky Mountains N.P., TN.
Reason For Making the Image Blooming dogwoods are fragile beauties. We look for those in Spring every year. Last year we photographed in Cades Cove and explored a hidden meadow where several dogwoods were in full bloom. I felt I am the Prince who selected the most beautiful one for a dance. The other trees looked at me and my selected beauty enviously. Under this impression, I selected my soft focus portrait lens and captured the moment.

Lexi Nemeth’s “Lunch Time”

Photographer Lexi Nemeth
Title “Lunch Time”
Category April 2013 /Gold / Color / First Place
Location Armand Bayou Nature Center Boardwalk
Reason For Making the Image I visited Armand Bayou Nature Center with a group of photographers from the Houston Photographic Society lately. We spread and walked on the boardwalk when I saw this leaf chewing caterpillar glowing in the back-lit leaf in a green monochromatic surrounding. I went close then I placed a close up diopter to my zoom lens to go even closer. I selected large aperture to isolate my subject, decrease the depth of field and increase the bokeh.
Camera Nikon D800
Lens and focal length Zoom Nikkor AF EDIF 70-200 mm f2.8 at 200 mm + Canon 500D close up diopter
f-stop f/3.5
Shutter Speed 1/125 sec.
